　領域プロジェクトは大急ぎで進行中です。

 The field project is in progress against time.

今回は大成功でした。思わず笑顔がこぼれます。

This experiment was a success. That made me smile unexpectedly.

　基礎プロジェクト2回目です。

　先週三四郎池で採ってきた泥をPIXEで分析します。

 The basic project at the second time.
 We analyze the components of the mud of Sanshiro-ike pond ,which we collected last week, with PIXE.

測定は無事に終了。

制御室ではデータの大解析大会が行われていました。

We completed the measurement without any problem.
In the control room, students analyzed data eagerly.


後はレポートを出せば松崎担当分の講義は終了です。

おつかれさまでした！

It only remains to turn in a report.

宇宙塵を探して Find the cosmic dust

　こんにちは、ミスターです。

 Hello, this is MALT.

　早くも3回目になりました高校生コラボ研究の報告です。

　輪講の続きと、具体的な研究方法と日程の話し合いを行いました。

 This is the 3rd report of collaborating project with high school students.

 We read the continuation of a paper and arranged a specific method and schedule of this research.

　わかりやすい動画（英語ですが・・・）があったので見てもらっています。

　夏休み中に海底泥サンプルから宇宙塵を探し出してもらうことになりました。けっこう大変な作業ですが若さで乗り切ってくれると思います。

 Because they sat in the same place every time, this pictures had the same composition as prior pictures.

 In order to take nice pictures, I need to make some measures.

  

領域プロジェクトも始動！ Field project starting!

　こんにちは、ミスターです。
 Hello, this is MALT.

　基礎プロジェクトに続いて、領域プロジェクトも始まりました。

　松崎研究室には2人の学生が配属されました。よろしく〜。

 Following the basic project, which is the lecture for students of Department of Systems Innovation, field project also started.
 Two students were assigned to Matsuzaki laboratory.

　核実験由来の放射性炭素がどれだけ含まれているかを加速器質量分析法を用いて調べることによって、ワインの年代測定を行ってもらうことになりました。

　サンプルとして使用できるワインの量が少ないので、アルコールを蒸留することから始めています。

The subject is verifying the vintage of wine by bomb-pulse radiocarbon measurement with AMS.

 We started with the distillation of ethanol owing to a little wine available for samples.

　イオンクロマトグラフの講習会が開かれました。
 The lecture "how to use the ion chromatogragh" was held in MALT.

MALT企画会議 MALT's brainstorming

　こんにちは、ミスターです。
 Hello, this is MALT.

　東大総合博物館の一員としてMALTの概要や研究成果などを外部に発信できないか企画会議を行いました。
 As a member of University Museum, we had an intense  brainstorming session　and discussion on how to send information about MALT's overview, research result and so on.

お茶請けは根津の「セレネー」の杏ロールケーキです。
 The apricot roll cake of a cake shop "Selene" in Nedu was served with coffee.

　MALTを知ってもらい、共同利用者を発掘して、AMS業界が発展していくように努力していきます。
 We strive to make MALT known, increase the collaborating project and further develop the AMS industry.

2014基礎プロジェクト開始 Basic project starting

　こんにちは、ミスターです。
 Hello, this is MALT.

　工学部システム創成学科の基礎プロジェクトが始まりました。

　MALT担当課題では、今年も三四郎池の底の泥の成分をPIXEを使って分析します。

　博物館所属になったので、MALTにとっては最後の基礎プロジェクトになりそうです。

 The basic project as the lecture of Department of System Innovation, Faculty of Engineering was started.
 The subject managed by MALT is an analysis of the component in the mud at the bottom of Sanshiro-ike pond with PIXE.
 This will be the last basic project for MALT of University Museum.

水位は低かったけれど、絶好のサンプリング日和になりました。

It was very fine, good for sampling.

池周辺でくつろいでいたみなさん、毎度お騒がせしてすみません。

来週はいよいよ測定です。がんばってください。

教授就任祝い A party to celebrate the promotion to professor.

　こんばんは、ミスターです。

 Good evening! This is MALT.

　教授就任を祝ってくれるということで、本郷三丁目に足を伸ばして来ました。

 

　14種類の地酒が飲み放題という肝臓も喜ぶステキな居酒屋さんでした。

 We held a party to celebrate the promotion to professor.

 At a bar where we went, we could drink 14 kinds of sake as much as we like, so my liver screamed.

　参加者の皆さんと。既にだいぶ酔っています。

　他に三宅くんからオサレコーヒーメーカーをもらいました。

 We have already been saturated with alcohol.
 I got the stylish coffee maker from Mr. Miyake.

　森田さんと昔話で盛り上がりました。お互い丸くなったものです。

 We enjoyed talking over the old days.

　ベロンベロンで闇の中に消えていくおじさんたち。とは言ってもまだ9時前です。みなさん一応ちゃんと帰ることができたようで何よりでした。

 They are the MALT Big Four. Let's go again!

つくばで新加速器ハシゴ見学をしました。 Newly-built Accelerators in Tsukuba area.

　こんにちは、たぶん初めまして徳山です！

 Hello, this is MALT.

　柏の大気海洋研や、我らが総合博物館も含めてペレトロン加速器の建設ラッシュまっただ中です。

　研究者としては微量元素を測定してどのようなデータを得るかということに目が向きがちですが、どうやって測定しているかを知ることも非常に重要なことです。

　まだ完成する前の状態の加速器を見られる絶好の機会なので、つくば地域で加速器を導入中の国立環境研究所と筑波大学を見学させてもらいました。

 In Japan, pelletron accelerators have built one after another, including AORI and University Museum. 

 Not only the measurement result but also the measurement method is very important.

 That brought me a golden opportunity to see accelerators which were not complete yet, so I visited National Institute for Environment Study and Tsukuba University where accelerators were under construction respectively.

　東京から一時間ちょっと。初めて電車で行きましたが、意外と近いです。

 It takes one hour for a train departing from Nedu Station to reach the Tsukuba area.

デジタルカメラを忘れたのでHoney Beeで撮影せざるを得ませんでした。残念。

環境研に導入されるコンパクトAMSです。ちっちゃくてかわいらしいです。

加速電圧は500kVと小さいので教室に収まる程度のサイズです。

総合博物館に導入されるものもこのタイプの加速器です。

 The accelerator built in NIES is compact and pretty.

 The accelerating voltage is low, 500kV, and the size is small enough to fit in a classroom.

 The accelerator introduced in University Museum is the same type.

 一度に134個もサンプルを入れられるそうです。MALTでは最大40サンプルなので、比較するとものすごく大容量ですね。重そう。

It has 134 sample positions. The capacity of it is lager than one of MALT accelerator, 40 sample positions.

筑波大学に導入されるのは6MVのペレトロンタンデム加速器です。

　ご覧のとおりMALTの加速器よりも一回り大きく、今回はヨコ型での導入です。

　壁をぶち抜いて室内に運び込んだそうです。

 The 6UD tandem accelerator is introduced in Tsukuba University.
 As you see, it is one round larger than MALT accelerator.
 They destroyed the concrete wall when they carried the tank into a building.

　被災を受けて使用不可能になった12UDの加速器も見せてもらいました。

　非常に大きく、壊れてもなお威厳を誇っています。

　大和さんから30年以上守ってきた加速器が壊れたときの話を聞いて心が痛みました。

　MALTの加速器も末永く大事にしていきたいと思います。

 I saw the accelerator tank of tandem pelletron 12UD which had been unavailable due to the Great East Japan Earthquake.

 It is very huge and possesses a dignify even now.

 I was sorrowful to hear the explanation of the situation when the accelerator, which they had maintained for more than 30 years, had broken.

　MALTのタンク整備はほぼ完了して現在付帯設備の整備中です。

　共同利用はGW明けくらいからを予定しています。

　今年度もよろしくお願いします。

 We almost completed the maintaining the tank of MALT accelerator and now we are adjusting accessories and incidental equipments.

 Collaborating projects are scheduled to start after the end of the long May vacation.

Now, we are repairing and cleaning the inside of the accelerator tank.

普段は見られないタンクの中です。

We can not usually see the inside.

高校生との研究活動初日

こんにちは、ミスターです。

Hello, this is MALT.

川越女子高校の生徒さんと共同研究の打ち合わせをしてからおよそ1週間。

About 1 week has passed since a meeting about a collaborating study with high school students. 

早くもMALTに再来してもらって、まずは輪講から始動しました。

Our study started in MALT with reading a paper about the cosmic dust.

専門的な英単語や、日常では使わない科学的な内容が多く、なかなか難しかったかもしれません。

Since there were many technical terms and scientific descriptions which we don't use in everyday conversation, it might have been so hard for them to read it.

ランチタイム。S峠（定峰峠）の話で盛り上がりました（一人で）。

宿題に定期テストに受験勉強。高校生はやらなければならないことが多くて大変ですが、これからも無理のない程度に頑張っていきましょう。

I think you have many your duties of high school students, but I hope you will be able to be great researchers!

タラの芽パーティー！ TEMPURA Party

こんにちは、ミスターです。
Hello, this is MALT.

春です！
Spring is coming!

桜も良いけど山菜もね！
Sakura(cherry blossom) is good, but Sansai(edible wild plant) is good too!

ということで、中野さんと森田さんがタラの芽を採ってきてくれました。
Thus, Mr.Nakano and Mr.Morita brought the buds of Taranoki(Japanese angelica tree).

揚げました！気づけばラスト1個になり慌てて写真を撮りました。

We ate them in tempura.

大変美味でした。今から来年が楽しみです。
Very delicious! I'm looking forward to eating again next year.

今年度より、MALTは工学系研究科から総合研究博物館に所属が移りました。
The affiliation of MALT was changed to University Museum from School of Engineering since April 1st, 2014.

共同利用や共同研究につきましては、従来と同じように行います。
The collaborating project will be continued as in the past.
